MUSIC OR DIE #22: Dave Brubeck Quartet, "Time Out" (1959)

I feel many things while looking at this

Part 22 of my 1000+ part series.
(For info on that, clickety-click-click)

In which I still am trash, but this time to a Turkish(?) beat.

TL;DR:
I fear the day that I run out of these pictures.

I don't have that much to say. So I'll supplement this post with pictures I found while Googling the name of each song. Rad!

1.) Blue Rondo à la Turk - I'VE ACTUALLY HEARD THIS BEFORE! Does...does this mean...COULD IT BE...I'm....

OK, let's not get too carried away here. But I do feel proud that I knew a thing!

As for the song itself, the change in tempos and rhythms is quite exciting.

Picture number one of our Google adventure

2.) Strange Meadow Lark - After the breakneck pace of the previous song, this is a fairly laidback number. A strange lark indeed.

3.) Take Five - W-what's this?! Another one I've heard before?

Another classic here - I suspect it's largely from familiarity, but I really enjoy this one a lot. The sax solo combined with the drum solo make for a good time.

...upon reflection, it's definitely the familiarity thing. Wikipedia informs me that it's the highest-selling jazz single of all time. Not too shabby.

4.) Three to Get Ready - This sounds a bit like a nursery rhyme to me. Not that that's a terrible thing, mind you, but I'm not crazy about it.

5.) Kathy's Waltz - Cute! Reminds me of some of the background music from some of the Peanuts cartoons. Some weird dissonant bits, but sure! I'm a classy dame.

Yes, this was in the image results. If only I were joking...

6.) Everybody's Jumpin' - This jumping is quite tame. Like the electric slide at an old folks' home or something. Not that that's bad, mind you!

These are getting better and better

7.) Pick Up Sticks - Saxophone! ...that's all I have to say!

I take it back about the pictures

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I genuinely am terrible at evaluating these. I really am. I recognize how interesting and innovative this must have been when it came out, given the creativity in the tempos, chords, and so on. Still, I struggle with knowing what to listen for and do...oh well!

Also...this is my last album of the 1950s! Swingin' Sixties, here I come!

Personal standout tracks:

"Blue Rondo à la Turk," "Take Five"
